User Experience (UX) is a process in which user satisfaction is assessed through usefulness, usability, findability, credibility, accessibility, desirability, and value of an experience. The User Experience (UX) Lab at B507 is a resource for the Minnesota State University, Mankato population as well as external clients and partners. The UX Lab fosters a user-experience design culture at the University. Within the lab, products and projects are evaluated, assessed, and revised according to research-based testing methods to develop improvements for efficiency, effectiveness, and user experience. Our goals are to conduct user experience evaluations of products, documents, and services developed at MNSU or by external partners and to educate both the campus and community on the importance of the user experience.
User experience (UX) focuses on a deep understanding of people, what they need, what they value, their abilities, and also their limitations. User experience includes elements of interaction design, information architecture, user research, and other disciplines, and is concerned with all facets of the overall experience.
Usability refers to the quality of a person's experience when interacting with products or systems, including websites, software, devices, or applications. Usability is about effectiveness, efficiency and the overall satisfaction of the person. Usability incorporates testing and learnability to determine the use of products or systems.
The UX Lab is a community resource where community members and clients will be able to do various types of UX inquiry with access to the tools of the UX Lab, including Tobii eye-tracking, Oculus Rift, and others to focus on specific needs of community members.
The UX Lab is available as a classroom/educational venue to have hands-on approaches to issues of UX and Usability, including using Tobii eye-tracking, Oculus Rift, and others to determine the functionality of designs.
